Senior Librarian – Published Collections

About the role

The University Libraries are seeking a Senior Librarian for the Published Collections unit within Special Collections. This permanent position focuses on developing, preserving, and providing access to special published collections, with an emphasis on African studies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide reference and research services, including subject‑specific support for Special Collections.
• Act as liaison between faculties and the library, delivering instructional sessions for groups.
• Develop and maintain collections, selecting material in line with development guidelines.
• Catalogue and analyse print, audio‑visual and electronic items, creating metadata for digital preservation.
• Preserve and conserve historical collections, including after‑hours and weekend work as needed.

Required profile

• University‑level library qualification at NQF Level 8 (PG Diploma, Honours, or 4‑year Bachelor’s degree).
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in an academic or research environment.
• Experience in collection development, original cataloguing, and research support services.
• Knowledge of African Studies is advantageous.
