Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Mine Waste

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mine Waste team in Midrand, South Africa. You will deliver specialist geotechnical services across mining, infrastructure and building projects, focusing on tailings facilities and site investigations. The role combines technical delivery, client interaction and mentorship of junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage multidisciplinary geotechnical and geological projects, including tailings facility investigations.
• Plan, supervise and conduct geotechnical site investigations and fieldwork.
• Interpret geological and geotechnical data, perform analyses and develop recommendations.
• Prepare proposals, tenders, technical reports and other project deliverables.
• Characterise ground conditions and engineering materials to support design decisions.
• Develop scopes of work, methodologies and cost estimates for new projects.
• Provide technical guidance and supervision to technicians and junior engineers.
• Identify safety hazards, report OH&S incidents and ensure work complies with client and regulatory standards.
• Support business development and client engagement activities.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in geotechnical engineering within mining, infrastructure or building sectors.
• Proven ability to lead and manage complex, multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong analytical skills with a track record of producing high‑quality technical reports.
• Experience mentoring junior and intermediate engineering staff.
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance.
