Senior Director, Accounting & Controlling

About the role

This senior position leads a global accounting function for a fast‑growing technology company. Based in South Africa, you will shape the finance operating model, drive automation, and ensure robust reporting across multiple regions.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end accounting engine, including month‑end close, financial reporting, internal controls, policies and compliance.
• Build and scale a global accounting operating model covering people, processes, systems and international entities (payroll, treasury, intercompany).
• Provide technical accounting guidance on revenue recognition, commissions, equity, payroll, intercompany transactions, foreign exchange and policy interpretation.
• Partner with commercial and operational teams to create practical accounting solutions that support growth while managing risk.
• Hire, mentor and develop a distributed accounting team, fostering accountability and professional growth.
• Lead finance transformation initiatives, identifying automation opportunities and implementing AI‑enabled tools.
• Strengthen the control environment with a focus on SOX readiness and support strategic initiatives such as fundraising, M&A and IPO preparation.
• Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, payroll providers and other strategic partners.

Required profile

• 6+ years leading accounting, controlling or finance operations in complex, multi‑entity, global environments.
• Strong technical accounting background covering revenue, commissions, equity, payroll, intercompany and foreign exchange.
• Experience in high‑growth SaaS or technology companies with recurring revenue models.
• Proven ability to lead through others and drive large‑scale transformation.
