Senior Claims Handler

About the role

Our client, a well‑established financial services organisation in Cape Town, is looking for an experienced Senior Claims Handler. This role offers the chance to lead a claims team, apply deep technical knowledge, and influence the efficiency of the claims function.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and assess claims in line with company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Apply strong technical claims knowledge to ensure accurate and timely decisions.
• Review and validate documentation, identify risks or discrepancies and trigger further investigations where needed.
• Maintain service‑level agreements and turnaround times for claim processing.
• Provide guidance, technical assistance and coaching to junior team members.
• Assist with resolution of complex or escalated claims and ensure compliance with legislation and internal policies.
• Maintain up‑to‑date claims records and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum NQF Level 4 / Grade 12 with RE5 qualification and FAIS compliance.
• At least 5 years of claims experience, including 1+ year in a senior claims position.
• Demonstrated leadership or team‑support capability.
• Strong analytical ability, attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
• Effective organisational and time‑management abilities.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of the claims process and insurance environment.

What we offer

• Competitive salary ranging from R17,000 to R22,500 per month.
