Sampling Manager

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is hiring a Sampling Manager in Richards Bay. The role defines roles, responsibilities and authorities to support effective quality and QH&S management, covering sampling, sample preparation, test execution and accreditation compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to the management system compliant with SANS ISO/IEC 17025 and OHSAS 18001:2007, and maintain SANAS and OHSAS accreditations
• Manage sampling and sample preparation so that samples are prepared according to customer requirements, procedures and specifications
• Assign work to staff, supervise it continuously, and ensure jobs are completed on schedule
• Train and witness staff, document training, and declare staff competent and fit for equipment
• Stop work when equipment malfunctions or tests deviate from procedures, report to the Branch Manager, and implement corrective actions
• Participate in root cause investigations of incidents, errors and repeats, and implement corrective and preventative actions
• Check completed calculations and reports, keep a realistic costing system within budget, and ensure equipment is serviced and calibrated
• Ensure staff use correct equipment, wear PPE, and follow safety, health and environmental policies
• Keep the preparation area and workplace clean, maintain good housekeeping, and carry out regular stock taking

Required profile

• Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science
• At least 5 years of sampling and preparation experience, preferably in coal
• Fluent English and good communication and interpersonal skills
• Well organised and computer literate
