Rust Developer - Remote

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Rust Backend Developer to join a high‑caliber engineering team working on cutting‑edge AI research. This fully remote contract role focuses on building robust, scalable APIs and testing next‑generation developer tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise REST and GraphQL endpoints for high‑performance APIs.
• Implement data validation, error handling, and security best practices across backend services.
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning, and schema changes.
• Test AI‑powered models in Cursor, providing detailed incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
• Participate in intensive 4‑day testing bursts to evaluate AI impact on coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team via a dedicated Slack channel and submit post‑burst surveys.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience, primarily using Rust.
• Strong expertise in building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Deep understanding of backend data validation, error handling, and API security.
• Hands‑on experience with database migrations, performance optimisation, and schema design.
• Extensive use of AI coding tools; familiarity with Cursor is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear incident reporting.
• Proven ability to thrive in fast‑paced, confidential, and collaborative remote environments.
