Risk Officer – Financial Services

About the role

We are looking for a Risk Officer to lead full‑spectrum financial risk management for a South African CFD brokerage. The role covers market, currency, interest‑rate, liquidity, counter‑party credit and operational risk, working closely with compliance and senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, measure and monitor market risk on the principal book and ensure timely hedging.
• Manage currency risk across ZAR, USD, EUR and GBP, addressing mismatches between client positions and counter‑party accounts.
• Oversee interest‑rate risk, including swap costs on CFDs and the HQLA liquidity buffer.
• Maintain liquidity buffers to cover variation margin under stress scenarios.
• Set limits and monitor counter‑party credit risk for hedging partners.
• Coordinate operational risk activities together with the compliance team.
• Develop and maintain risk policies, incident management procedures and risk control self‑assessment (RCSA) frameworks.

Required profile

• 3–5+ years of operational or enterprise risk management experience in a financial institution.
• Hands‑on experience with RCSA, key risk indicators (KRI), incident management and policy drafting.
• Degree in Commerce, Finance, Risk Management, Law or equivalent.
• Professional certification such as FRM, PRM, IRM, CIA, CISA or CQF (preferred).
• Experience with derivatives, CFDs, forex or crypto is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently in a small team or as a solo practitioner.
