Retail General Assistant – Customer Service & Merchandising

About the role
The General Assistant will deliver comprehensive customer service within a retail store environment. You will be responsible for maintaining merchandising standards, ensuring accurate shelf labeling, and keeping the store area safe and tidy.
Key responsibilities
- Assist customers with product queries, advise on selections, and resolve complaints.
- Merchandise bulk stock safely according to store layout and planograms.
- Maintain a clean, obstacle‑free aisle, ensuring customers can move safely.
- Accurately label shelf prices within the assigned area.
- Follow OHSA safety procedures, use safety gear, and report hazards.
- Report damaged or missing stock to the Store Manager.
- Complete checklists for canteen and toilet/shower schedules as required.
Required profile
- Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least one year of work‑related experience, or Grade 12 without experience.
- Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language.
- Valid South African ID or work permit.
- Basic calculation skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
