Researcher/Senior Researcher in Accumulation and Inequalities

About the role

The Rhodes African Studies Centre (RASC) seeks qualified researchers to join a two‑year contract focused on accumulation and inequalities within Africa. The position is research‑oriented, with no teaching obligations, and contributes to the Centre’s interdisciplinary agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research on accumulation dynamics and inequality, with attention to gendered aspects.
• Develop and publish articles in leading journals or produce a monograph with a respected publisher.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary projects, including conferences and related academic activities.
• Engage with the Africa Multiple network and contribute to trans‑national research initiatives.

Required profile

• PhD in African Studies, Political Economy, Economics, Sociology, Gender Studies, Anthropology, Geography, History, or a related discipline.
• Emerging publication record on topics of accumulation and inequality.
• Experience in interdisciplinary or collaborative research projects.
• Evidence of conference participation, preferably at international venues.

Required skills

• Strong academic writing and publication skills.
• Ability to manage and organise research projects and events.
• Familiarity with political‑economy and gender‑focused analytical frameworks.
