Remote IT Project Engineer

About the role

FusionTek, a Managed Service Provider founded in 2007, is looking for a fully remote Project Engineer based in South Africa. The role is the technical backbone of project implementations: supporting Project Managers on deployments, migrations and infrastructure upgrades, and taking ownership of the technical design and execution of server, network and cloud migration projects with minimal oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Lead deployments and configurations for Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019 and 2016 environments
• Design, set up and manage Hyper-V hosts and virtualization infrastructure, including VMware ESXi/vSphere
• Deploy networking equipment such as switches, access points, VLANs, VPNs and routing/switching environments
• Deploy and troubleshoot SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco or Meraki firewalls
• Manage core network infrastructure and advanced routing/switching configurations
• Lead Microsoft 365, Intune and Azure (Entra ID, Azure AD, Azure VMs, Azure networking) deployments and migrations, primarily to Azure with AWS knowledge
• Plan and execute cloud migrations, configure SharePoint (on-premise and online) and modern collaboration platforms
• Implement and troubleshoot BCDR, Veeam and Barracuda backup solutions and support SaaS backup and disaster recovery
• Join project calls as the senior technical resource, mentoring junior technicians and documenting configurations and procedures

Required profile

• 5-8+ years of IT infrastructure, systems engineering or senior systems administration experience
• Must reside in South Africa
• Proven track record leading or executing server, network and cloud migration projects end-to-end
• Multi-client experience; MSP experience strongly preferred
• Preferred certifications: Microsoft Azure Administrator/Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, CompTIA Network+/Security+

• Windows 10/11 and macOS, and Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019 and 2016
• Hyper-V, VMware ESXi/vSphere and networking (routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, SD-WAN)
• Firewall configuration (SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco, Meraki)
• Microsoft 365, Intune and Azure; on-premise to cloud migrations
• Veeam, Barracuda or similar backup and disaster recovery tools
• Working knowledge of AWS (EC2, S3, networking, IAM); PowerShell required, Azure CLI a plus
