Registered Nurse – PB Qualified – Medical ICU

About the role

Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre, advertised through Lenmed, is looking for a Registered Nurse qualified in post-basic (PB) practice to work in its Medical ICU. The nurse provides safe, cost-effective patient care in line with hospital standards and policies, and delivers direct and/or indirect nursing care to individuals or groups of patients.

Key responsibilities

• Practice patient care according to the scope of practice and take full responsibility for these activities
• Contribute to the holistic care of patients
• Attend handover of reports at the start of each shift
• Communicate effectively with patients about their care
• Promote the health and wellbeing of patients
• Audit health records to ensure compliance
• Ensure all stock is well controlled, managed, charged and credited appropriately
• Promote and maintain good relations with patients, relatives and visitors

Required profile

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse or Midwife, or an equivalent NQF 7 qualification (post-basic diploma)
• Relevant qualification and 2 years of experience in the specialist area (ICU)
• Flexibility to work varying hours and shifts
• Capacity to implement and maintain health practice standards required by accredited bodies and health legislation
