QC Inspector / Vendor Inspector (SMPP) – Mining Project

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a skilled QC Inspector / Vendor Inspector based at the Head Office in Boksburg. The role supports a major copper mine extension project in Zambia, ensuring all fabricated components meet stringent quality and project specifications before dispatch to site.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct quality control inspections of fabricators during the manufacturing of piping systems and structural steel components.
• Ensure full compliance with project specifications, drawings, codes, and client requirements.
• Monitor fabrication processes, welding, and material handling.
• Review and verify quality documentation throughout production.
• Compile, manage, and finalize data books for all fabricated items.
• Perform final inspections and sign‑off documentation prior to shipment to the Zambia site.
• Liaise with fabricators, engineers, and project stakeholders to resolve quality issues.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and quality standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a QC Inspector or Vendor Inspector in industrial or mining projects.
• SMPP experience (Structural, Mechanical, Piping & Platework) – non‑negotiable.
• Solid understanding of fabrication processes, welding procedures, and inspection techniques.
• Experience compiling and signing off data books.
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as ISO, ASME, and AWS.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
• SAIW Level 1 (or equivalent) certification – required.
• NACE coating inspection certification – advantageous.
• Relevant technical qualification in engineering, quality control, or a related field.
• Welding inspection certification (e.g., CSWIP, IWI) – advantageous.
