About the role
The Department seeks a senior academic to lead teaching and research in Development Studies, with a particular focus on development finance, entrepreneurship and socio‑economic transformation. The role combines lecturing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising research students and contributing to departmental administration.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate academic programmes, enhancing curriculum content related to development finance, entrepreneurship and applied economic development.
- Supervise master’s dissertations and doctoral theses on topics such as development finance, SME development, venture capital and public‑sector finance.
- Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate modules in development finance, managerial/project finance, entrepreneurship and related subjects.
- Produce high‑quality research publications in accredited journals, focusing on development finance, venture capital and socio‑economic development.
- Perform academic administration duties, including curriculum development, programme coordination and research administration.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues on multidisciplinary research initiatives and expanding thematic areas such as the oceans economy and socio‑ecological development.
- Mentor emerging scholars, supporting their research development, academic writing and career progression.
Required profile
- Strong academic background in Development Studies with specialised expertise in development finance, venture capital in emerging markets, entrepreneurship ecosystems, SME development and socio‑economic transformation.
- Proven ability to teach finance‑related modules and research methodology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Demonstrated experience supervising master’s and doctoral research projects.
- Excellent coordination and administrative skills to manage academic programmes and curriculum development.
- Capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and to mentor junior academics.
