About the role
The Department seeks a senior academic to lead teaching and research in Development Studies, with a strong focus on development finance, entrepreneurship, and socio‑economic transformation. The role involves delivering undergraduate and postgraduate modules, supervising master’s and doctoral research, and contributing to departmental administration.
Key responsibilities
- Design and deliver lectures and seminars in development finance, managerial/project finance, entrepreneurship, and related subjects.
- Supervise master’s dissertations and doctoral theses on topics such as venture capital, SME development, and public‑sector finance.
- Coordinate academic programmes, enhance curriculum content, and support interdisciplinary research initiatives.
- Produce high‑quality research publications in accredited journals and contribute to the department’s research output.
- Perform administrative duties including curriculum development, programme coordination, and research administration as required by the Head of Department.
- Mentor emerging scholars, guiding their research development, academic writing, and career progression.
Required profile
- PhD or equivalent in Development Studies, Economics, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated record of scholarly publications in development finance, venture capital, or socio‑economic development.
- Extensive teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Successful supervision of master’s and doctoral candidates.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Required skills
- Deep expertise in development finance, venture capital in emerging markets, and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
- Strong knowledge of SME development, innovation, and socio‑economic transformation.
- Proficiency in delivering finance‑related modules such as managerial finance, project finance, and financial management.
- Experience in academic programme coordination and curriculum design.
