Professional Nurse Grade 1 - General Stream

About the role

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Administration is recruiting a Professional Nurse Grade 1 (General Stream) for the Umzimkhulu Psychiatric Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal. The nurse provides direction and supervision for the nursing plan and quality patient care, works within the professional scope of practice and is expected to work shifts including nights, weekends and public holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direction and supervision for the implementation of the nursing plan and quality patient care, and implement standards, practices, criteria and indicators for quality nursing.
• Practice nursing and health care in line with the relevant laws and regulations, and perform clinical nursing care according to the professional scope of practice and standards set by the health facility.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records and provide accurate statistical information for data management.
• Assist the unit manager with overall management and support the unit's effective functioning.
• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, cooperating with people of diverse intellectual, cultural, racial or religious backgrounds.
• Participate in health promotion and illness prevention initiatives, including outreach programmes, and promote the culture of ethics and professionalism.
• Assist with performance planning, monitoring and evaluation of staff, and supervise nursing care provided by other categories of nursing staff.
• Exercise control over discipline, grievance and labour relations issues, and participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
• Be prepared to work shifts as allocated, including night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
