Product Developer

About the role

Future Careers is looking for a commercially‑minded Product Developer to join its consumer‑products team in Umhlanga. You will be involved in the full product lifecycle, from concept creation and sourcing to branding, packaging, manufacturing and retail launch across South Africa and selected international markets.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop new product ideas, concepts and category opportunities.
• Conduct market research on consumer trends, retail movements, social media and international product developments.
• Manage the end‑to‑end product development process, coordinating design, packaging, production and launch schedules.
• Liaise with local and international suppliers and manufacturers on quotations, specifications, samples and lead times.
• Source new manufacturing partners and commercial opportunities.
• Oversee packaging development to ensure brand consistency and product appeal.
• Review product samples, artwork, packaging mock‑ups and revisions to meet quality standards.
• Monitor project timelines, approvals and launch dates, proactively resolving issues.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers and internal stakeholders.
• Support supplier meetings, factory visits, trade shows and market research activities as needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience in product development, product management, sourcing, procurement, project management or a related commercial environment.
• Strong organisational and project‑management abilities with capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and supplier‑relationship skills.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to spot market opportunities and consumer trends.
• Proactive problem‑solving attitude.
