Principal Water Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

AECOM's Enterprise Capabilities team is looking for a Principal Water Infrastructure Engineer to join its South Africa offices. You will lead and grow the Cape Town Water Infrastructure team while supporting the delivery of projects across the North Queensland and Northern Territory (NQNT) region in Australia. The role combines technical leadership, project delivery oversight and people management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team that acts as an integrated extension of the Australian Water Infrastructure business
• Coordinate engineering services across water and wastewater infrastructure projects with Australian project managers and technical leads
• Ensure high-quality outcomes, effective resource management and compliance with project, safety and quality requirements
• Build capability and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement in the Cape Town team
• Mentor and develop people and strengthen cross-regional relationships

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
• Registered as an engineer with ECSA
• 12+ years of relevant experience after obtaining the qualification
• Chartered or professional member of a relevant professional body (e.g. CPEng / RPEQ with Engineers Australia and Board of Professional Engineers Queensland)
• Proven experience in water and/or wastewater projects within consulting and design environments

Required skills

• Experience managing complex projects and leading project teams
• Knowledge of applicable Australian codes and standards
• Knowledge of the consulting services market
• Microsoft Office packages
