Porter

About the role

The Porter supports guests at One&Only Cape Town by handling luggage, parcels, mail and other items, while keeping the lobby and porte‑cochère clean and welcoming. The role requires a courteous, prompt and efficient service mindset throughout each guest’s stay.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and collect guest luggage, parcels, faxes and messages with accuracy and courtesy.
• Maintain the cleanliness and order of the lobby and porte‑cochère, ensuring trolleys and storage areas are tidy.
• Coordinate with Concierge and Front Desk for secure storage and timely delivery of items.
• Distribute local newspapers by 8 am and international papers by 10 am.
• Raise and lower hotel flags according to seasonal schedules and keep them clean.
• Report any suspicious persons or unattended luggage to the Concierge.
• Provide valet parking services and safeguard guest car keys.
• Assist the Doorperson when needed and support Night Auditor duties during night shifts.
• Stay informed about hotel facilities and services to answer guest inquiries.

Required profile

• Well‑groomed and punctual at all times.
• Ability to work night shifts under the supervision of the Night Auditor.
• Reliability with attendance; lateness and absenteeism not tolerated without valid reason.
• Understanding of hotel security procedures and guest safety.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of hotel facilities and services.
• Ability to operate luggage trolleys and handle flag equipment.
• Good communication skills for interaction with guests and staff.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow storage and security protocols.
