Port Worker

About the role

Transnet is recruiting a Port Worker for its TPT Cape Town terminal, within the Operations department. The position is full-time, non-permanent and reports to the Operations Manager. The worker provides labour under the direction of the supervisor to keep the workplace safe and clean and to optimise cargo operations.

Key responsibilities

• Clean operational equipment such as ship-to-shore crane windows and cabins, and clean operational areas, rail trucks, plant, workshops, offices, sheds and ablution facilities as instructed.
• Inspect container condition and monitor reefer operations.
• Open and close rail wagon twist-locks, load and unload cargo and slack it according to standard operating procedures.
• Hook and unhook, tarp and untarp where applicable, and place or remove dunnage.
• Complete applicable documentation such as accident reports.
• Identify the correct cargo handling equipment and gear.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (NQF 04) with at least 1 year of experience; port operation experience is an added advantage.
• Grade 10 (NQF 02) with at least 2 years of experience; port operation experience is an added advantage.
• A relevant certificate or ROC is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of terminal layout, safety and stack positions.
• Attention to detail and cleanliness.
