Pingo Operations Team Leader

About the role

The Operations Team Leader oversees the performance and compliance of contracted drivers in the assigned stores or clusters, ensuring quality of operations in line with client service level agreements, standard operating procedures and legal and regulatory requirements. The role also ensures access to branded and unbranded assets and resources for contractors, and supports operations-based projects for current and new contractors and stores.

Key responsibilities

• Manage performance objectives of clusters, apply corrective measures to performance exceptions and escalate disciplinary or penalty actions to the area manager.
• Coordinate, manage and control the daily and weekly availability and schedules of contracted drivers according to cluster needs.
• Carry out daily and weekly compliance checks on drivers and assets, ensuring drivers have the right resources and tools and meet legal and regulatory conditions.
• Support and issue assets, uniforms and campaign-related articles, and ensure AODs are completed and submitted to the admin team on time.
• Maintain daily face-to-face contact with independent contractors, run on-the-job training where needed, and handle driver queries promptly.
• Gather driver feedback, pursue plans to remove performance barriers and improve alignment with business goals, and recommend improvements to driver self-service.
• Engage regularly with drivers on all aspects of the business, identify challenges and resolve issues that affect performance.
• Report field incidents and accidents accurately and on time, and support drivers in completing incident and accident reports.
• Make recommendations to the Area Manager for continuous improvement of the cluster, collate and submit budget inputs as required.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent (essential).
• Degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Safety Management or a related field (essential).
• +3 years of experience in an operations environment (essential).
• 1 year of supervisory experience (desirable).
• Familiarity with performance management and improvement (essential).
• Experience in retail or FMCG (desirable).

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 with a focus on the tools needed for the role (essential).
• Strong analytical, planning, organisational and communication skills, including writing and reporting.
• Able to work under pressure, prioritise and adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment.
