Pest & Weed Control Officer – Parks Section

About the role

This permanent position is within the Parks Section of Midvaal Local Municipality, responsible for managing weeds and insects across municipal green spaces. The role requires safe pesticide application, equipment maintenance, and strict adherence to health, safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Use a knapsack sprayer and other equipment to control weeds and insects in municipal parks.
• Apply pesticides safely following standard procedures, considering environmental and public safety.
• Maintain and regularly inspect knapsack sprayers, grass‑cutting machines and other tools for damage.
• Perform garden‑tool work when primary equipment is unavailable.
• Read and adhere to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for every product before use.
• Carry out any additional ad‑hoc tasks assigned by management.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 10 education; Grade 12 preferred.
• At least 1 year experience in a parks section of a local government authority.
• Operator’s certificate for pest and weed control.
• Valid driver’s licence and Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).

Required skills

• Operation of knapsack sprayers and grass‑cutting machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Knowledge of safe pesticide application and environmental regulations.

What we offer

• Base salary ranging from R174,012 to R193,644 per annum (Level 12, Grade 04).
• Total compensation package inclusive of benefits up to R312,708 per annum.
