Operator – Pneumatic Tube Station (Chief)

About the role

The Operator (Pneumatic Tube Station) Chief is responsible for managing the pneumatic tube system at Groote Schuur Hospital, handling the dispatch and collection of tubes, specimens and related documents while ensuring a safe work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the pneumatic tube system, dispatching and collecting tubes and handling telephonic queries.
• Report defective specimens and transport specimens from wards to laboratories.
• Receive and dispatch specimens, postal forms, medical reports and other documents.
• Maintain a safe and hygienic work environment, apply basic infection‑prevention measures and clean equipment.
• Assist with collection of DHA1663 from wards and perform miscellaneous messenger duties.

Required profile

• General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) / Grade 9.
• Relevant operator experience.
• Physical ability to lift carriers and work shift duties under pressure.

Required skills

• Extensive knowledge of tube distribution service.
• Effective communication abilities.
• Basic knowledge of Infection Prevention Control procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure.
