Operator Gr1 - Auxiliary Mining

About the role

Kumba Iron Ore, part of the Anglo American / De Beers Group, is looking for an Operator Gr1 Auxiliary Mining in Kathu. The role operates and maintains auxiliary equipment so that materials are handled safely and smoothly, supporting primary mining operations. It sits in the Mining department on Band 9/P5 (C-Lower) level, reporting to the Shift Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and control auxiliary mining equipment such as loaders, dozers, graders and other support vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Carry out routine maintenance checks, perform minor repairs and report issues to maintenance teams.
• Assist with material handling, including loading, transporting and unloading materials on site.
• Conduct pre-operational inspections and record equipment usage and fuel consumption.
• Support other operations such as excavation, dumping and grading, and respond to emergencies following established protocols.
• Maintain effective communication with operators, supervisors and maintenance personnel, and take part in training and stay compliant with industry standards.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / N3.
• Red permit and valid Dover certificate.
• Relevant HME licenses.
• Competency A (an advantage).
• SA driver's licence.
• 1-2 years of relevant mining operations experience.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of equipment operational systems, such as collision prevention and fire suppression systems.
• Current technical understanding of auxiliary mining equipment.
