Operational Finance Manager – Johannesburg

About the role

FEM is looking for a highly skilled Operational Finance Manager to lead the Operational Finance function in its Rosebank office. The role ensures accuracy, compliance and efficiency of all operational financial activities, supporting both claims and premium processes.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and approve bank payment releases while maintaining strict internal controls.
• Prepare and review monthly journals, trial balance and month‑end reconciliations.
• Produce Income Statement and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
• Develop monthly management reports with variance analysis and commentary.
• Compile quarterly statutory and regulatory reports.
• Liaise with IT on system fixes, enhancements and automation.
• Coordinate internal and external audit requests and resolve findings promptly.
• Lead, develop and mentor the operational finance team.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting (or equivalent) with Honours and >7 years finance experience, or CA(SA) with ≥4 years post‑articles experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls and financial reporting.
• Experience in financial services or insurance industry.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines and drive continuous improvement.
• Proven leadership and team‑development capability.
