Ocean Experience Guide

About the role

Tide & Seek is looking for enthusiastic Ocean Experience Guides to lead small groups on tidal‑pool tours and wild‑swimming adventures along Cape Town’s coastline. This full‑time, onsite position combines safety management, storytelling, and environmental stewardship to create memorable, low‑impact ocean experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and prepare daily routes, checking weather, tides and environmental conditions.
• Conduct safety and equipment checks before each outing.
• Lead groups through tidal pools and open‑water swims, delivering engaging information on local ecology, history and responsible swimming practices.
• Manage logistics such as meeting points, timing, and participant communication.
• Document experiences, gather feedback and support social‑media content.
• Collaborate with the Tide & Seek team on new offerings and community partnerships.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Cape Town’s tidal pools, currents, tides and basic marine ecology.
• Excellent open‑water swimming ability and confidence in varied sea conditions.
• Experience in guiding, outdoor education or leading group activities with a focus on safety.
• Clear communication and storytelling skills, adaptable to different ages and experience levels.
• Commitment to low‑impact, environmentally responsible practices.
• Reliability, punctuality and strong organisational skills.
• Willingness to work variable hours, including early mornings, weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• First aid
• Lifeguard or water‑safety certification (highly beneficial)
