Municipal Manager (Fixed‑term, 2‑year)

About the role

The Ba‑Phalaborwa Local Municipality is recruiting a Municipal Manager on a fixed‑term two‑year contract. The incumbent will lead the municipality’s administration, ensure compliance with legislation, and drive institutional transformation while reporting to the Council.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Social Sciences, Law or equivalent.
• Minimum five years of senior‑management experience in the public or private sector.
• Demonstrated success in institutional transformation.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Computer literacy.
• Willingness to undergo competency assessment and security clearance.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of relevant policy and legislation.
• Advanced understanding of institutional governance systems and performance management.
• Advanced understanding of council operations and delegation of powers.
• Good governance principles.
• Audit and risk‑management establishment and functionality.
• Budget and finance management.
• Knowledge of the Local Government Competency Framework for senior managers.

What we offer

• Remuneration package ranging from R 1 152 941 (minimum) to R 1 497 499 (maximum) per annum.
• Fixed‑term two‑year contract with performance agreement and benefits aligned with municipal employment policies.
