Municipal Manager – Fixed-Term (2-Year)

About the role

The Ba‑Phalaborwa Local Municipality seeks a senior leader to serve as Municipal Manager on a fixed‑term contract of two years, aligned with the current Council term. The role is based at the municipality’s main offices on Corner Nelson Mandela Drive and Selati Road and involves overseeing council operations, governance, and service delivery.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Social Sciences, Law or equivalent.
• At least five years of senior‑management experience with a proven record of institutional transformation in the public or private sector.
• Valid driver’s licence and computer literacy.
• Willingness to undergo competency assessment, security clearance and disclose financial interests.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of relevant policy and legislation governing local government.
• Strong understanding of institutional governance systems, performance management and council delegation of powers.
• Expertise in audit, risk management, budget and finance management.
• Familiarity with the Local Government Competency Framework for Senior Managers.
