Master Artisan Panel Beater

About the role

AIDC, a government-owned public entity supporting the South African automotive industry, is recruiting a Master Artisan Panel Beater for the Township Automotive Hub Department. The post manages the WInterveldt auto body repair facility, trains and mentors entrepreneurs and learners in panel repair, and reports directly to the Programme Manager. The appointment is on a three-year fixed-term contract with a three-month probation period.

Key responsibilities

• Develop training materials, plans and milestones, manage consumables and PPE, and run formal training and assessments of learners and apprentices
• Mentor learners on equipment maintenance and ensure HSE and quality compliance
• Monitor occupational health and safety, conduct audits, create an annual health and safety plan and an audit schedule
• Manage quality management systems, including accreditation liaison, standard operating procedures, supplier audits and corrective action reports
• Run facility operations: procurement, stock keeping, maintenance of equipment and paint stock, and achieve health, safety, quality, delivery and cost targets
• Track project progress, budgets and risks, and report monthly, quarterly and annually
• Support the department's business and financial plan, coordinate project planning and evaluate staff performance

Required profile

• A+, trade test and apprenticeship qualification
• Senior-level experience in auto body repair and panel beating, including chassis straightening, parts replacement, resistance spot welding and costing
• Proven record in OEM-approved workshops and with OEM-approved paint companies
• Strong entrepreneurial track record with proven successful ownership of a business
