Master Artisan Mechanical - Auto Body Repair Training

About the role

AIDC, a government-owned public entity supporting the South African automotive industry, is recruiting a Master Artisan Mechanical for the Township Automotive Hub Department. The post manages the WInterveldt auto body repair facility, trains and mentors entrepreneurs and learners in panel repair, and ensures health, safety, environmental and quality compliance. It is a three-year fixed-term contract with a three-month probation, reporting to the Programme Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Develop training materials, plans and milestones, manage consumables and PPE, and run formal training and assessments of learners
• Mentor learners on equipment maintenance and turn apprentices into independent operators producing quality work without supervision
• Monitor occupational health and safety, conduct audits, create an annual health and safety plan and an audit schedule
• Manage quality management system accreditation, develop SOPs, audit suppliers and prepare corrective action reports
• Run facility operations including procurement, stock keeping, maintenance and equipment longevity
• Track project progress, budgets and risks, and report monthly, quarterly and annually
• Support the department's business and financial plan, manage employees and provide coaching and mentoring

Required profile

• A+, trade test and apprenticeship qualification
• Senior-level experience in auto body repair (spray painting, colour matching, metal preparation, paint finishing)
• Proven record in OEM-approved workshops and with OEM automotive paint companies
• Strong entrepreneurial track record with successful business ownership
• Senior-level experience in mechanical and workshop management, chassis straightening, spot welding, costing, quoting and procurement
