Manufacturing Development Engineer

About the role

SNC Nanofibers is seeking a Manufacturing Development Engineer to join its Operations team in Cape Town. This hybrid engineering position focuses on designing, building, commissioning, and supporting bespoke manufacturing and post‑processing equipment that scales nanofiber technologies from pilot to production‑ready machines.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop new machinery, tools, and fixtures based on R&D and production requirements.
• Build, assemble, and test prototype and pilot‑scale equipment, performing hands‑on workshop activities.
• Support installation, commissioning, validation, and maintenance of equipment, handling breakdowns and implementing corrective actions.
• Collaborate with R&D, process engineering, and production teams during trials, scale‑up, and continuous‑improvement projects.
• Maintain engineering documentation and ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Management System and safety standards.

Required profile

• Practical, inventive engineer with experience in equipment design and hands‑on build.
• Ability to take ownership of projects from concept through to commissioning and ongoing improvement.
• Strong teamwork skills to work closely with cross‑functional teams and external suppliers.
