Management Accountant – Finance Service Centre

About the role
The Management Accountant will provide comprehensive management accounting services to the union, supporting budgeting, financial reporting and internal controls. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the role is based at the head office in Johannesburg.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the national budgeting process, ensuring timely preparation and quarterly monitoring.
- Consolidate and analyse monthly accounts, investigating any deviations from budget.
- Review bank reconciliations monthly and manage cash balances to avoid overdrafts.
- Supervise service‑centre staff on daily deliverables and ensure proper authorisation of capital expenditure vouchers.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies such as SARS and external auditors.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts, including accruals, balance‑sheet items and fixed‑asset registers.
- Develop departmental budgets, forecasts and cash‑flow projections.
- Support year‑end reporting, audit schedules and internal audit processes.
Required profile
- Matric/Grade 12 plus a recognised accounting qualification (Honours degree or equivalent) with articles.
- Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA) or equivalent is an advantage.
- 5–8 years of management accounting experience, preferably in a union, public‑sector or similar environment.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self‑starter, results‑driven and detail‑oriented.
