Maintenance/CNC Technician

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance & CNC Technician to keep our precision engineering workshop running smoothly. Based in Pinetown, you will support a range of industries including mining, steel, rail, paper, sugar and aluminium by ensuring CNC and conventional machines operate reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot CNC milling and turning centres (electrical, mechanical, and control systems).
• Perform first‑line repairs, interpret machine alarms and error codes, and liaise with OEM service agents.
• Carry out preventive maintenance schedules on CNC and conventional equipment.
• Service welding and fabrication tools (MIG, TIG, arc welders, grinders) and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic and lubrication systems.
• Maintain overhead cranes, hoists, compressors, coolant and swarf handling systems.
• Develop and implement a Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) programme, keep accurate service records and manage spare‑parts inventory.
• Assist with general workshop upkeep (electrical boards, lighting, plumbing) and ensure health‑and‑safety compliance.

Required profile

• Trade‑tested Millwright (preferred) or Electrician with strong mechanical aptitude; alternatively N3/N4 Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• Valid driver’s licence (advantageous).
• Minimum 5 years hands‑on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Proven experience maintaining CNC machines (Fanuc or similar controllers) and conventional machine tools.
• Experience with welding and fabrication equipment is an advantage.
• Self‑starter with strong fault‑finding mindset and good communication skills.
