Maintenance Technician – TSSSA (Cape Town)

About the role

The Maintenance Technician – TSSSA will join Gibela’s Depot Maintenance Team at the Salt River depot in Cape Town. The role provides corrective technical support for rolling stock during the warranty period and assists the customer with maintenance after warranty, ensuring trains are ready for service.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Engineering Department to analyse train faults and propose maintenance solutions.
• Guide drivers and fleet managers in resolving emergencies and performing corrective maintenance.
• Coach the customer on maintenance procedures as defined in the contractual agreement.
• Prepare trains for service through functional testing and the use of diagnostic tools, on‑board computerised equipment and condition‑based fault monitoring.
• Report defects identified during commercial service to generate service orders.
• Troubleshoot and repair Gibela rolling stock in line with quality and safety standards.
• Perform manual tasks and, when required, work on powered‑up trains while adhering to strict safety controls.
• Conduct high‑speed testing and deploy trains to other depots as needed.

Required profile

• Relevant technical qualification or equivalent experience in rail or heavy‑vehicle maintenance.
• Ability to work safely on powered equipment and follow health, safety and quality procedures.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and willingness to train and support customers.
• Effective communication skills to interact with engineering, drivers and fleet managers.
