Maintenance Assistant

About the role

RCL Foods, a leading South African food manufacturer, is seeking a driven Technical Maintenance Assistant for its baking business unit. Based in Durban, you will support the Maintenance Manager by assisting with planned and preventative maintenance as well as basic machine repairs.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Maintenance Artisan with electrical, mechanical and civil maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
• Perform mechanical and electrical inspections of machinery according to supplier requirements and maintenance procedures.
• Maintain and repair water systems, plumbing and residential building infrastructure as scheduled or when breakdowns occur.
• Execute daily inspections to prevent breakdowns and complete job cards with sign‑off from the Artisan.
• Keep the toolbox, workshop and work area clean, tidy and compliant with food safety and GMP standards.

Required profile

• Technical Senior Certificate (N3) or equivalent technical qualification.
• 2–3 years practical experience as a maintenance assistant, preferably in a production or bakery environment.
• Mechanical or electrical experience; bakery background is advantageous.
