Legal Intake Specialist (Criminal Defense, Immigration, Family Law)

About the role

A fast-paced, client-focused legal practice based in New York City, covering criminal defense, immigration and family law, is looking for an Intake Specialist. The role is remote, covers rotating shifts in the EST (New York) time zone, and is open to candidates in South America, Latin America and the Philippines. It is an independent contractor position.

Key responsibilities

• Answer inbound calls and call back new leads within minutes, especially urgent and website inquiries.
• Qualify each lead, quote consultation fees and schedule consultations with the attorneys.
• Handle the urgent line (recent arrests, warrants, detentions): quote retainers and take payment on the call if needed.
• Keep lead records accurate in the CRM and refer out or reroute matters that cannot be taken.
• Route calls from existing clients, courts and other departments to the right person.
• Cover any intake channel (phone, web, text) as assigned.

Required profile

• Experience in intake, a call center, sales or customer service; phone-based closing is a plus.
• Strong phone skills: professional, good listener, able to keep a conversation on track.
• Sound judgment and comfort applying fee and eligibility rules on your own.
• Ability to work in several systems at once while on a call and take accurate notes.
• Discretion with confidential information.
• Availability for rotating shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (or another client language) strongly preferred.

• Experience with Lawmatics, Clio, Dialpad or Slack.
