Lecturer – Botany (BSc Extended Programme)

About the role

The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at North-West University’s Mahikeng Campus seeks a dedicated Lecturer to teach Botany modules PLKS171 and PLKS172 within the BSc Extended Programme. The appointment is a three‑year fixed‑term contract, commencing as soon as possible.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate teaching for PLKS171 and PLKS172 using both contact and online modes, ensuring student success and meeting faculty performance standards.
• Monitor and support at‑risk students, conduct assessments, and maintain high academic standards.
• Supervise Honours, MSc and PhD candidates, and publish research in accredited journals.
• Participate in community engagement and social responsibility initiatives as directed by the School of Biological Sciences.
• Contribute to administrative duties within the subject group, school, faculty and university.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (MSc) in Botany or a closely related field (NQF level 9).
• Minimum two years of tertiary‑level teaching experience.
• Hands‑on experience with laboratory techniques relevant to Botany.
• Registration with the South African Association of Botanists (SAAB) is desirable.
