Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in International Trade

About the role

The School of Economic Sciences at North-West University invites outstanding early‑career researchers to join a dynamic team focused on International Trade, Economic Development and Global Competitiveness. This full‑time, fixed‑term fellowship (2‑3 years) offers the chance to conduct high‑impact research on trade challenges affecting Africa and emerging economies.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute independent and collaborative research projects in international trade.
• Publish findings regularly in high‑impact, peer‑reviewed journals.
• Develop competitive research grant proposals.
• Present results at national and international conferences.
• Co‑supervise postgraduate students where appropriate.
• Participate in seminars, workshops and international research collaborations.

Required profile

• PhD obtained within the last four years in International Economics, Economics, Trade, Development Economics, Finance or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated research productivity through journal articles, conference papers or research reports.
• Strong quantitative research background with experience in advanced econometric and statistical techniques.

Required skills

• Proficiency with econometric software such as Stata, R, EViews, Python or SPSS.
• Experience applying panel data econometrics, dynamic panel models, cointegration techniques, and related quantitative methods.
