Laboratory Manager - Brits

About the role

SGS, a global testing, inspection and certification company, is hiring a Laboratory Manager in Brits. The role carries overall responsibility for the operation and all functions of the laboratory, including its effectiveness, efficiency and quality, and for keeping the laboratory compliant with ISO/IEC 17025.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise laboratory staff and programme activities, and lead the laboratory's direction and decisions
• Maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and ensure the Quality Management System is followed in daily operations
• Promote and monitor health and safety, and follow environmental policies
• Provide technical support or direction to customer services and external clients, and ensure compliance with analysis standards
• Assist in budgeting for projects and new service development, and develop operational tools, guidelines and procedures
• Train in-house laboratory staff and protect the integrity of correspondence and reports
• Resolve complex technical situations quickly, and initiate formal improvement requests when deviations occur
• Review and edit documents to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements

Required profile

• BSc Chemistry or equivalent
• Extensive laboratory experience in a mining environment
• Five years of supervision at management level in a geochemical field
• Demonstrated interpersonal and organisational skills, with previous management experience

Required skills

• Good working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025
• Extensive experience with laboratory operations
• Instrumentation skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
