Laboratory Manager – Bloemfontein

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Laboratory Manager to join the team at our Bloemfontein branch. The role involves overseeing technical and administrative staff in a high‑pressurised environment, supporting local management to execute business strategy and achieve medical and business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Align and implement the area’s operational strategy, supporting the Pathologist and staff with day‑to‑day laboratory operations, including HR, finance, staffing and quality matters.
• Prioritise customer care and embed PathCare values to optimise patient care through excellence in pathology services.
• Create a customer‑service culture, streamline and standardise processes and SOPs, and continuously review business systems for improvement.
• Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and drive market‑share growth in the region.
• Manage cost drivers, implement financial policies, and ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems.
• Support training, development and HR initiatives, including employee relations, talent acquisition and wellness programmes.

Required profile

• 3‑year Biomedical Technology diploma or 4‑year Medical Laboratory Scientist degree, with current HPCSA registration.
• At least 8 years post‑registration experience as a Medical Technologist/Scientist/Technician in clinical pathology.
• Minimum 5 years of line‑management experience with direct reports, covering people, processes and financial controls.
• Familiarity with QA functions (SOP & ECS reviews, PRISM system) and HR policies (talent acquisition, leave approvals, performance management).
• Valid Code B driver’s licence (manual transmission) and intermediate computer literacy (LIMS, Microsoft Office).

Required skills

• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
• Experience with PRISM quality system and SOP/ECS review processes.
• Knowledge of QA functions and regulatory compliance in pathology.
• Ability to implement technical procedures and deliver staff training.
