Junior‑Intermediate Site Reliability Engineer – Cape Town

About the role

This is a junior‑intermediate Site Reliability Engineer position with a leading South African payments fintech. Based in Cape Town, you will work on cloud‑native payment platforms that process millions of transactions daily, gaining hands‑on experience with modern SRE practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and improve reliability, observability and automation for large‑scale AWS environments.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance deployment safety, monitoring, alerting and CI/CD pipelines.
• Maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Develop and maintain dashboards and alerts with Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, Loki or DataDog.
• Participate in incident response and post‑mortem analysis to drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• BSc in Computer Science, IT or a related discipline.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience with exposure to SRE, DevOps or platform engineering.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and passion for automation.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑impact fintech environment.

Required skills

• Python (or similar scripting language).
• Amazon Web Services (AWS) and cloud‑native architectures.
• Infrastructure as Code tools – Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Observability tooling – Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, Loki or DataDog.
• CI/CD pipeline concepts and automation.
• Understanding of distributed systems reliability.
