Junior Planner

About the role

takealot.com, South Africa's leading online retailer, is seeking a Junior Planner to join its fast‑growing team in Cape Town. You will support the In‑stock function, demand planning and inventory health while providing data‑driven insights for commercial decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the In‑stock function, including demand planning, ordering and capacity management.
• Produce accurate, timely reports that enable department managers to meet revenue and margin targets.
• Develop sustainable In‑stock systems in partnership with analytics, technical and product teams.
• Support procurement cycles such as seasonality, promotions, import purchasing and continual replenishment.
• Create and manage the bottom‑up budgeting cycle, annual retail sales budget and quarterly re‑forecasting.
• Manage end‑to‑end inventory availability, stock turn, markdowns, returns and warehouse space.
• Drive process improvements to reduce costs, defects and lead times while increasing automation.
• Conduct complex business analysis to improve cost structure and contribution margins.
• Assist operations in delivering a world‑class customer experience by monitoring returns, defects and product queries.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Commerce, Finance, Mathematics or Economics (preferred).
• 1‑3 years of retail planning experience.
• Proven track record in spend management (OTB, margin, markdown controls).
• Strong numerical and analytical aptitude.
• Experience creating and managing advanced stock‑management and inventory models.
• Entrepreneurial and commercial mindset with a willingness to learn.
