Junior Investment Banker - Resource and Project Finance

About the role

Absa is looking for a driven and experienced individual to join its Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) division as a Junior Investment Banker in the Resource and Project Finance (RPF) team in Sandton. The RPF team identifies, structures and executes complex financing opportunities, and this role offers involvement in the full lifecycle of project finance transactions, from client engagement to financial close.

Key responsibilities

• Support the origination and execution of resource and project finance transactions, from initial client approach to financial close.
• Build and maintain client relationships and act as a key point of contact during the deal process.
• Conduct due diligence, reviewing and analysing financial, legal, commercial and technical reports.
• Facilitate client, bank and advisor interactions and support deal execution in line with the Bank's risk appetite and compliance frameworks.
• Help prepare term sheets and negotiate loan documentation.
• Prepare credit analyses and compile documentation for credit committee review and approval.
• Develop and present marketing materials and pitches, and identify opportunities to cross-sell other banking products.
• Assist in managing existing transactions, including credit reviews, waivers and amendments.
• Contribute to the team's strategy and help mentor more junior team members.

Required profile

• University degree or equivalent, ideally in Business, Commerce or Management Studies; professional qualifications are an advantage.
• Minimum of 3-7 years of relevant experience in power or infrastructure finance.
• Proven track record of structuring and executing corporate and project finance deals.
• In-depth knowledge of the power or infrastructure sectors.
• Experience in the South African financial landscape, particularly in Sandton, is beneficial.

• Deep understanding of project finance and corporate facility structures.
• Credit and financial analysis, with strong financial modelling capabilities.
• Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
• Ability to work both as part of a team and independently, and to deliver in high-pressure environments.
