IT Governance and Risk Assessment Officer

About the role

Global Water Solutions Africa is looking for an IT Governance and Risk Assessment Officer to lead a comprehensive risk assessment of its IT environment, ensure compliance with data‑protection regulations and support audit activities. The role will work closely with the Global IT Manager and act as a backup for operational tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a full risk assessment of all IT systems, processes and controls.
• Support internal and external audit activities and implement audit recommendations.
• Review existing IT governance frameworks and propose practical enhancements in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Ensure IT operations comply with GDPR and South African data‑protection requirements.
• Provide advice to IT teams on governance and data‑protection queries.
• Offer intermittent operational support as a backup to the Global IT Manager.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience in IT governance, audit, risk or compliance.
• Strong analytical and written communication skills.
• Ability to produce clear, actionable reports and proposals.
• Interest in IT operations or administration.

Required skills

• Knowledge of IT control frameworks such as COBIT, ISO 27001 and ITIL.
• Deep understanding of GDPR and data‑protection principles.
• Experience conducting IT system audits or risk assessments.
