Internal Controls Advisor

About the role

The Internal Controls Advisor will support Anglo American's Global Shared Services (GSS) in meeting global and local compliance requirements. This role focuses on implementing, monitoring, and enhancing financial reporting and operational control standards across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Work with stakeholders, including leadership and control owners, to implement and monitor internal control standards.
• Provide mentoring and guidance to control operators and deliver training on control standards, operation, and evidence expectations.
• Identify impacts of business process changes on financial compliance and advise on risk mitigation.
• Support the annual control self‑assessment, review control testing, and ensure quality and consistency of analyses.
• Report on internal control reviews, track remedial actions, and ensure timely delivery of testing activities.
• Develop and coordinate business‑specific Compliance Management Plans and report breaches or policy contraventions.
• Participate in ad‑hoc risk, control, and compliance projects, including fraud and segregation of duties risk management.
• Engage with senior stakeholders, internal and external audit teams, and maintain effective relationships across GSS and the wider business.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of internal control frameworks and financial compliance requirements.
• Experience mentoring and delivering training to control operators.
• Ability to analyse business process changes and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
• Proven capability to support control testing, quality review, and remediation tracking.
• Experience developing and managing compliance management plans.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including interaction with senior leaders and audit teams.
