Intermediate Agentic AI Engineer – Hybrid (Cape Town)

About the role

This is a permanent position with a leading South African fintech organisation, focused on building and deploying agentic AI solutions. You will work in a hybrid setting, collaborating with senior engineers to deliver AI agents that enhance payment platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop AI agent workflows using LLMs, retrieval‑augmented generation, embeddings, prompt engineering and tool calling.
• Integrate AI agents with REST APIs, data sources and existing fintech platforms.
• Write clean, maintainable Python code and create evaluation tests for agent accuracy and safety.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and continuously improve AI agents in production.
• Collaborate with engineering, product and business teams to define standards and technical improvements.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience in software or AI/ML engineering.
• Strong Python development skills.
• Hands‑on experience with large language models and their APIs.
• Familiarity with RAG, embeddings, prompt engineering and tool calling.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON, Git and Docker.
