Instrumentation Mechanician – Automation & PLC Specialist

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation Mechanician with strong automation and Siemens PLC programming expertise to support commissioning, optimisation, and continuous improvement of automated production systems. The role is hands‑on and ideal for professionals who enjoy solving complex automation challenges and driving process efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Program, modify and optimise PLC‑controlled machinery and production equipment.
• Commission, configure and test instrumentation and automated control systems.
• Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VSDs, motors, sensors and field instrumentation.
• Support automation upgrades, system integrations and new equipment installations.
• Calibrate and configure instrumentation to ensure accurate process control.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve machine performance, efficiency and reliability.
• Assist with continuous‑improvement initiatives to optimise production processes.
• Develop and maintain PLC backups, technical documentation and system records.
• Ensure all automation systems comply with quality, safety and operational standards.

Required profile

• Trade Test as an Instrumentation Mechanician, Electrician or Millwright.
• National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation or related discipline.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel when required.
• South African residency or a valid South African work permit.

Required skills

• Siemens PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• SCADA, HMI and VSD experience.
• Industrial communication networks and process control systems.
• Instrumentation calibration and configuration.
• Interpretation of electrical schematics, P&IDs and control system documentation.

What we offer

• Competitive annual salary ranging from R 360 000 to R 600 000.
