Instrument Mechanician, RRT DMS Plant

About the role

Kumba Iron Ore, part of the Anglo American / De Beers Group, is looking for an Instrument Mechanician for its RRT DMS Plant in Kathu. The role maintains the reliability and efficiency of maintenance processes by keeping instrumentation and control systems operating effectively. It sits in the Engineering & Maintenance department at Band 8 (C-Lower) level, reporting to the Engineering Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Follow health, safety and environmental requirements, and take part in safety audits, inspections and observations
• Install, inspect, test, calibrate and maintain instrumentation and control systems such as sensors, transmitters, controllers and final control elements
• Troubleshoot instrumentation systems using diagnostic tools and instrumentation drawings, then repair malfunctioning equipment
• Calibrate measurement devices against known standards and program and configure control systems
• Maintain records of calibrations and repairs and report on system status and recommended improvements
• Work with engineers and technicians on control strategies and integrate instrumentation into larger engineering projects
• Train colleagues in the engineering department and stay up to date with new instruments, sensors and control strategies

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent SAQA-recognised qualification
• Higher National qualification in Instrumentation (NQF5) and a trade certificate as Instrument Mechanician preferred
• SA driver's licence
• Knowledge of operational processes, operational drawings and design, documentation and sign-off procedures, risk management and safety legislation

Required skills

• Instrumentation principles and protocols, including HART and Modbus
• Relevant operational drawing experience (mining industry preferred)
