Import/Export Controller – Freight Operations

About the role

We are looking for a highly organised Import/Export Controller to oversee air, sea and road freight operations. You will coordinate with third‑party logistics partners, ensure compliance, and keep internal and external stakeholders informed throughout the shipment process.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate all aspects of air, sea and road freight operations, from estimates to final delivery.
• Request and analyse cost estimates from pre‑approved suppliers, providing recommendations to internal departments.
• Plan and schedule import, export and local cargo movements, verifying cargo readiness with stakeholders.
• Create purchase orders and compile required shipping documents (commercial invoices, packing lists, clearing instructions, technical data sheets, SAD500, CNCA certificates, EUR1, LOA’s).
• Manage collection and delivery dates with shipping agents and internal teams.
• Cross‑check final invoices against original estimates and flag variances.
• Track shipments, update stakeholders, and handle client queries.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and support procurement functions as needed.

Required profile

• Diploma (NQF Level 4) in Shipping or International Trade.
• 2‑3 years of experience in freight forwarding or customs clearing.
• Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work independently.
• Strong numerical, problem‑solving and time‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.
• Sound knowledge of technical shipping terms, documents and standard freight practices.
• Understanding of air, sea and road freight operations and related cost structures.
