HVAC Artisan

About the role

A vacancy exists for an HVAC Artisan at Life St. Dominic's Hospital in East London, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The role provides continuous HVAC services for the hospital infrastructure, including maintenance, servicing and new installations of HVAC units, and supports the hospital's business plan through optimal management of engineering responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, repair and service HVAC systems, air-handling units, compressors and other mechanical equipment
• Carry out preventive maintenance and attend to breakdowns, taking remedial action
• Conduct daily, weekly and monthly inspections and file service records
• Manage contractor maintenance work, including compliance with health and safety regulations
• Maintain equipment parts and spares inventories and order spares on time
• Prepare maintenance reports and document maintenance actions, irregularities and continuing needs
• Perform risk assessments before maintenance work and follow OHS Act and NOSA guidelines
• Complete daily job cards, provide after-hours standby and call-out support, and comply with clean and safe working procedures

Required profile

• Matric/Grade 12; minimum N5 qualification in Mechanical Engineering
• Mechanical HVAC trade test certificate
• Mechanical engineering experience; practical experience in a hospital or similar environment preferred
• Valid driver's licence; own vehicle is an advantage
• Excellent communication, problem-solving and customer-handling skills

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of HVAC, air-conditioning systems and air compressors
• CMMS knowledge (preferably SAP) is an added advantage
