About the role
Our power generation entity is seeking a hands‑on HR/IR Officer to manage the day‑to‑day human resources and industrial relations functions on site. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for employee relations matters, support union and community stakeholder engagement, administer employment contracts and ensure HR compliance in a unionised, project‑driven environment.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and administer the site industrial relations function, including disciplinary processes, grievances and incapacity procedures in line with company policy and the Labour Relations Act.
- Prepare case files, evidence packs and documentation for disciplinary hearings, CCMA conciliations and bargaining council matters.
- Represent the entity at CCMA conciliation level and support management at arbitration.
- Engage with shop stewards, schedule union meetings, and keep minutes for union/management structures.
- Assist with implementation of collective and recognition agreements and wage negotiation outcomes.
- Monitor compliance with the LRA, BCEA, EEA and relevant bargaining council determinations, escalating risks to management.
- Support participation in community forums, local labour desks and stakeholder engagement structures within the power generation sector.
- Administer local recruitment processes to meet community employment commitments and skills development localisation obligations.
- Draft, administer and manage employment contracts (permanent, fixed‑term, project) and ensure compliance with demobilisation requirements.
- Maintain audit‑ready employee files and HR records via the Group’s HRIS.
- Coordinate end‑to‑end recruitment, onboarding and off‑boarding for site employees and provide first‑line HR advice.
- Administer leave, time‑keeping queries and payroll inputs in coordination with the payroll function.
Required profile
- Proven experience delivering HR and industrial relations services in a unionised, project‑driven environment.
- Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA) and bargaining council processes.
- Ability to manage employee relations matters, union liaison and community stakeholder engagement.
- Experience preparing documentation for CCMA conciliations, disciplinary hearings and arbitration.
